The Hidden Truth
Has anyone seen or heard from large Albert Gore? Where is that omniscient sage of Global Warming when you need him. I mean, with record snow falls and freezing weather across the nation, with the tectonic plates sliding over and under one another, across the planet, creating more earthquakes then most of us have ever read about in such a short period of time, where is the answer man, the man who has uncovered the hidden truth? The truth is, he is probably hiding out somewhere in his fuel inefficient mansion, driving his fuel guzzling SUV, wondering what next Quixotic quest to begin, now that most of us know the real hidden truth – the one that starts out ” you can’t fool mother nature.”
Speaking of the hidden truth, why is it that President Obama is having so much trouble getting his policies through Congress? After all, he does have a majority in both houses of Congress, and was elected on a campaign of “Change?” I believe that the answer should be as evident as the bull that Mr. Gore has been trying to feed us over the last several years, after his political career came to an abrupt end. America has never been nor will ever be a liberal socialistic nation.
Even the moderate liberals in Congress are taking notice of the true American attitude, and quaking in their well worn seats over the upcoming November election. After all, if a man or woman has no talent for making a living, and are fortunate enough to have been running for office at the right time and in the right locale, losing the plum of a job as Representative or Senator is a catastrophe, not to be envisioned by the weak of heart, despite being the weak of mind. Thus, second thoughts are passing back and forth between the auditory appendages of their so often vacant skulls, as the reality of supporting a Socialistic President, becomes apparent.
America is probably the kindest, most generous nation in the world, especially when it comes to the welfare of other nations in need. Who do you think most nations, suffering from a sudden natural catastrophe, turn to in times of need. It sure is not the French or the Russians. It is the good old U.S. of A. We Americans are also well aware that, within our midst, there are those who are also in need. We have come to accept the responsibility of caring for those in need, within our ranks, through a network of religious and secular charities. At the same time, we have not nor never will accept that it is our Government’s responsibility of creating a Welfare State, and although Social Security and Medicare are evidence of past specific needs, Congress has allowed these programs to outgrow their original purpose, so that today, both programs have become an unsustainable burden on the American taxpayer.
Both programs are a perfect example of “welfare legislation,” of which Congress was never meant to promulgate. It should be apparent to anyone who has studied the original history behind these programs that what we have today is not what was envisioned by either President Franklin Roosevelt or President Lyndon Johnson. However, that is the natural progress of a welfare program and the socialistic mentality, behind it. No welfare program, promulgated by Congress, ever remains static. It always grows exponentially, to eventually become more of a financial burden than a blessing. Today, rather than 14 workers supporting the single retiree, under Social Security, we now have just 2 to 3 workers doing that job. As the nation ages, the ratio will narrow also. Today, rather than providing health care relief for those “American” who could not work enough hours to keep up with rising health care technology and its costs, Medicare and its state run Medicaid provide health care to anyone who happens to reside on American soil, and that, unfortunately for states like California, includes millions of undocumented aliens.
It has never been, nor is it now a Constitutional directive to the President or to Congress to promulgate laws by which such a welfare state is formed. Both the Chief Executive and Congress have certain directives, as stated and easily understood in our Constitution, as to how to proceed with their duties. Whenever either exceeds the “limited government” prescribed by that document, the Supreme Court is directed to clean the slate by declaring such legislation or executive order as “unconstitutional.” Today’s welfare programs, if argued anew before the high court, would prove difficult to support, given our Constitution’s limiting guidelines.
It should therefore come as no surprise that Mr. Obama has been able to little if anything, insofar as his socialistic agenda, since being elected. And as a side note, I easily understand how Mr. Obama was elected. America was in the midst of a traumatic recession, it was waging two foreign wars, and poor John McCain, like Hubert Humphrey in the past, was a throw away candidate. It often makes me wonder about the two party system. It is almost as if both parties are allowed to take their turns at ruining the nation. Americans were left with no real choice. Even Hillary, dare I admit this, would have made a more realistic leader, and that alone shows how contemptible the American political system has become. I digress.
America, unlike France or Great Britain, for example, is not a nation which can live with Socialism – a welfare state. We are not a lazy nation with a national history which is burdened by ancient , out of date theories of governance. We fought a war to overthrow a monarchy. We fought a war to make all men equal, after which we expected every man to carry his own burden and achieve his own destiny. We fought a war to destroy an aggressive Kaiser, who sought to rule Europe, and then a resulting war to destroy National Socialism. We fought a Cold War for decades to destroy Socialism’s evil cousin Communism. Does this sound like a nation which will suddenly accept Socialism Lite, just because times are difficult? We have come through far harder times that we now experience, never once considering bowing our heads and giving up all for an all encompassing government.
That is not the definition of an American. We are gentle, kind and generous when we should be but are tough as nails when we need to be. Do we need health care legislation? Yes. The insurance companies and the American Bar are out of control. Do we need socialized medicine? No. That is not the answer. Socialized medicine will grow, at the government trough, just as Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid have grown, to the point where the major health care dollar is utilized by the government, as are most of our tax dollars, on wasted entitlement programs, created to obtain re – election votes, rather than spent on technology and drug research. Do we need cap and trade and stronger Labor Unions to impede American industry? No. What we need is less government control over how American industry competes with foreign manufacturers and their slave labor, and less control of labor by politicized Labor Unions. Do we more porous borders and less national security? No, we need a stronger military, tighter borders and stricter legislation as to immigration and naturalization. Do we need to borrow more money from present and future enemies? No, we need less political entitlement and welfare spending by Congress, and a stabilization of the dollar against foreign currencies. I could go on and on, but the point is that everything that the current administration is proposing or planning is exactly what we do not need to make this nation strong.
If the reader takes anything from this missive, it is that once the federal government promulgates a program, which, by definition, must continue to grow into the future, our politicians will discover methods of enlarging that program, through entitlements and side legislation, in order to buy them votes rather than improve the original program through either efficiency or by its total elimination. Ask yourself this. How often is a tax passed, in order to accommodate an acute need, and then never erased from the tax code? The answer is never. The same may be said for any unneeded legislation, passed today. Bad law today will be worse law in the future. Of that you can be assured.
