Beware of What You Wish For, It May Come True
The din emerging from my Democrat acquaintances, resulting from the election of Barak Obama as President of the United States, has melted away, over the last year, to a now barely heard whimper. Why? They have finally realized just how much they were taken in by this country fair flim flam artist. He promised change and the nation apparently wanted change. He promised transparency in government and apparently the nation felt we needed more transparency in government. He promised that we would bring our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan and the nation desperately wanted our boys and girls brought out of harm’s way. He promised an end to pork and entitlements and the nation certainly wanted no more of that sort of government waste. He promised us jobs and Lord knows we need jobs. He promised us that he would not raise taxes, and certainly that was a responsible promise in times of recession. He promised a massive change in health care delivery, and we thought that he meant more access at less cost, and we certainly wanted that. He promised us an end to the status quo, and we certainly wanted an end to that barrel of crap. Well boys and girls, beware of what you wish for, it may come true.
Mr. Obama enticed you to pay your quarters to see the eight legged fat lady with the ten foot beard, and you believed him; hook, line and sinker. Now “we” are on the defensive for, what appears to be, the first time in our political history. Today, Republican, Independent and Democrat alike are on the receiving end of a political scourge which is threatening to ruin everything this nation has worked for over the last 200+ years. Our Constitution is just another rag according to the Democrat majority in Congress, as they bulldoze through legislation which violates not only the ninth and tenth amendments of that venerated document, but also its entire reason for being.
This is the result of electing a man who has never understood the concept of Liberty or Capitalism, despite his alleged credentials as a professor of Constitutional Law. In my humble opinion, Mr. Obama does not cherish America. As a matter of fact, again in my humble opinion, Mr. Obama has done everything in his power, and will continue to do everything in his power, to destroy what this nation has accomplished, under the guise of “change.” In my humble opinion, Mr. Obama is unqualified for the office to which we elected him and, yet, he continues to rhetorically expand his presence, despite a nation which continues to seek the nadir rather than the apex. And yet, those who supported him, when we really knew nothing about him, now sit in the background, startled in his audacity and silent in their justified misery. You asked for him; you got him. Well, I won’t say I told you so, because you already knew that. The problem is that now, both you and I are stuck with him and those are the facts, Jack.
And exactly what did you get with that ill conceived and, perhaps to be a bit more blunt, just off the turnip wagon vote? You got tax increases where there were to be none. The 10% bracket is gone and the top four pre-2001 tax rate brackets are reinstated for 2010. How perfect is that for a people trying to claw themselves out of the worst recession since the great depression? And who is harmed by this bracket creep? Certainly not the wealthy. Its the lower and middle class wage earner who now has a new broom stick shoved where the sun never shines. In addition, America’s auto industry is in shambles.
You have lost venerable auto brands that have served us for years. You have lost jobs which will “never” return, even when this recession is over. Our new “average” unemployment will most likely be doubled in the future, as those in the position of hiring will hesitate adding on new workers. You don’t build what you cannot sell, and people without jobs certainly cannot buy.
You have saved the very financial systems which caused the bubble to burst in the first place, and rewarded their thieving directors with bonuses made up of packages of our tax dollars. You have no more oversight of Wall Street and our home mortgage and banking industry than we had before, but we do have millions of dollars in losses as a result of a Congress that played the game with the big boys and ended up with a lot more money in their re-election coffers. You have a home which is worth much less than you owe on its mortgage, and probably live in a neighborhood with bank owned homes on either side of you.
You have a proposed, and likely to pass, health care bill which will provide health care to illegals, limit the access of health care to the elderly and those in greatest need of medical technology, along with having a sea change effect on the health insurance industry. Instead of the “boys” coming home, more and more of them are being shipped off to our latest Viet Nam, despite the fact that Afghanistan is a war which we are not capable of winning with our current rules of engagement.
Our dollar is dropping like a lead sinker and the rest of the world sees us as a potentially bankrupt nation, having to print its way to solvency, while depending on its friends and its enemies to purchase its debt. Hell, I could just go on and on, but the point has been made.
What is that point? The point is “we were snookered by the Democrats, by Obama, by Reid, by Pelosi and by all the other political rascals who have made Washington D. C. their home away from home, and now we are going to have to pay the piper. Is there anything we can do? Sure, we can vote the rascals out of office in the 2010 election, but chances are we won’t. We are born suckers for their kind of hucksterism. We actually believe the old saw that”we are the government and we are here to help you.” Have you ever considered why our founding fathers wanted a “limited form of federal government,” with the majority of the authority delegated to the states? This is why. Ladies and gentlemen – you and I have been screwed, and we aren’t even enjoying it.
